History These terriers developed by being used on farms to hunt pests. They also protected farm animals, and were used as watchdogs. German Pinschers were forerunners of the miniature Pinscher and the Schnauzer. German Pinschers also played a role in the evolvement of the Doberman. These dogs were initially recognized in Germany in the year of 1879. These dogs have been used as pest destroyers, watch dogs, guard dogs and as family pets.
Characteristics
German Pinschers are very trustworthy, attentive and playful dogs. It is important to socialize them well with other dogs when they are still young, because they tend to be cautious of strangers later on. These dogs are very lively, and they love to be in the presence of their families. German Pinschers are usually good around children.
Temperament
The German Pinscher is a dog that is very brave, bold and loyal. These dogs are also very fond of playing. They have very good natures, and they are also very alert and therefore good watchdogs. Some of these dogs are very stubborn, can be quite manipulative. It is therefore recommended that they have owners with some previous experience in dog ownership. German Pinschers possesses lots of energy, and they love to be play and exercise with their families. They are very clever dogs, and this helps them in training.
Care

Training
It is very important to be consistent in the training of these dogs. Seeing that these dogs are very bright and clever, they are quite keen to learn of they are given the correct training. These dogs can get very protective of their possessions like a bone or food. The dog must also be teached who is the boss, and they need to know their place in the household.
