History

Cockapoo have been known in the USA since at least the 1970s – these dogs have become so well known now that many of these dogs today come from Cockapoo parents, and not a cross between a Cocker spaniel and a Poodle. These dogs have also become very popular in other countries such as in Australia and in Sweden – the Cockapoo is still under development though.

Characteristics

Cockapoos are very trusty and sharp dogs – they also show lots affection toward their owners and families. These dogs are easily trainable, and this breed is mixed with one of the smartest dogs in the world. The Cockapoo has a very good nature, and they have conquered the hearts of many dog owners out there.

Temperament

Cockapoos are keen on pleasing their owners – they are also very energetic and sociable dogs, therefore being good companion dogs. The Cockapoo will get along well with children and other dogs when supervised. These dogs should be trained from a young age onwards; otherwise they might have problems later on with aggression. This breed will also get envious if their owners pay attention to anything else. These dogs are highly trainable, and also very bright.

Care

The Cockapoo should be brushed and combed on a daily basis – these dogs are not heavy shedding dogs. If they are brushed however, they will even shed less – making them suitable to allergy sufferers. It is recommended that these dogs are clipped at least once a year. For more detailed info, take a look at the Cockapoo Grooming page.

Training

Cockapoos are very clever dogs, and this can make the training of these dogs very easy. These dogs will do very well when it comes to obedience, and if the training is presented in the correct manner these dogs will do extremely well. Cockapoos should be handled in a firm manner – training however should be very consistent but also very gentle. logo1-6779947 vote_for_us-5644688
