Introduction

This dog has been known since the 1500s, but was first publicly presented in 1909 and then became popular after 1930. Cairns are one of Scotland's original terriers. Today they are probably contributors to Scottish, West Highland White and Skye terrier breeds. The Cairn terrier is mainly a companion dog. They also excel at terrier trials. Some of the talents of these dogs include hunting, tracking, watch dogging, quickness, competitive obedience and performing tricks.


Characteristics

The Cairn terrier is a very intelligent, stubborn and brave little dog. They are very lively and domineering, and also very bright and independent. The Cairn terrier is quick to chase and quick to bark at every new sight and noise. These breeds of dogs are intense and active.

Temperament

These dogs are resilient, intelligent and attentive. The Cairn terrier is a pleasant dog and companion. They are bold and inquisitive, and they have a very gentle disposition. The Cairn terrier is lively and good-humoured and loves to get involved in activity and fun. Their inclination to bark and raise the alarm makes them effective watchdogs. These dogs have ample spirit and are keen, excited, eager and clever. The Cairn terrier can also have a very self-confident and obstinate nature. Care

The Cairn terrier requires a small amount of grooming in order to keep their coats looking good. They should be brushed and combed twice a week, and they can also be rubbed down with a damp towel when necessary. They are low shedders, but this can change on a seasonal basis. Their nails and teeth should also be checked. Their coats should also be clipped once in a while. Fro show dogs the dead coat will then be stripped away.
