What Causes Dog Allergies – Itchy Feet and Itchy Bottom?

Often confused with dogs biting their nails or cleaning their feet, the dogs itchy feet are caused in most cases due to allergies alone. This allergy causes the dogs feet to be very aggravating and irritatingly itchy. The cause for an itchy bottom on dogs is also due to the above causes but there are also other conditions that may be causing the same sort of symptoms in your dog, these are problems with the anal sacs, tumors or other infections, or worms. With all these, the symptom of scooting or dragging their bottoms across the floor is used as a method for itching the irritating and burning sensation.

What Your Vet May Say or Do

With the symptoms above being present the vet will more than likely try to find the cause of the allergy by using a string of questions about your home and the dog’s recent behavior. Even after this the condition of an itchy bottom is made harder to diagnose due to similar symptoms from anal sac problems or worm conditions in your dog. For these further testing may be needed to prove or eliminate the appropriate condition.
